Newsletter Vol. 3, #4

Did you know… ASME Section II Part C has reclassified E8018-B2L & ER80S-B2L to E7018-B2L & ER70S-B2L. Note:  the E8018-B2 & ER80S-B2 fillers remain unchanged.  QC Inspection Services would be pleased to discuss these changes with our clients and perform the necessary revisions to their weld procedure specifications.
ALERT - Structural Engineers, Architects, Erectors and General Contractors
Our inspectors have noted that there is considerable misunderstanding of the requirements for bolt tightening and the terms involved, i.e. snug tight, turn of the nut, torque, and pre-tensioning.  The definitions for these terms are established in CAN/CSA-S16.1-94 under sections 23.4, 23.5 & 23.6:  -‘Snug tight’ is the tightness of a few impacts on an impact wrench or the full effort of a person using a spud  wrench.  -The inspection need only ensure that the tightened bolts bring the connected elements into full contact.  If you have any questions regarding bolt tensioning or other inspection requirements please contact us and one of our inspectors will gladly discuss these matters with you.
